Helen Marie Coleman Gigger

Helen C. Gigger Bio

Attorney Helen Marie Coleman Gigger was born in Houston, Texas on December 24, 1944, to Mrs. Jessie Lee Patten Key. She was the first of eleven children. Helen accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized at an early age at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church. She later united with Cleaves Memorial Methodist Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Helen married her college sweetheart and the love of her life, Nathan Gigger, after they met in law school at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas on October 25, 1968.A native Houstonian, Helen attended Frederick Douglas Elementary, James D. Ryan Junior High and Jack Yates Senior High School. She was a proud graduate of the 1961 class of Jack Yates. She received her Bachelor of Arts and Doctor of Jurisprudence degrees from Texas Southern University. She was a Life member of the Divine Nine Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (DST). She served in several leadership capacities with DST on a local and National level. Attorney Gigger was employed by the City of Oklahoma for 37 years as an attorney and Department Head. Attorney Gigger was a member of several community and civic organizations. She received numerous awards over her lifetime—too many to name. Attorney Gigger was a strong believer in family and community.

Eligibility

• Must be a May 2023 graduating senior with plans to attend a college or university

• Minimum GPA: 3.0

• Must identify as an African American/Black Woman
